TEFL certificate programs can be expensive and time-consuming, but MyTEFL has been able to strike a balance between affordability and thoroughness that is tough to beat.

In this MyTEFL review, I’ll explain why they’re one of my best TEFL providers and what you can expect if you choose them for your TEFL course.

Why Take a TEFL Course?

  1. Make a positive impact in the lives of students across the globe
  2. Teach online from the privacy of your own home
  3. Plenty of TEFL positions as the English language is demanded across the world
  4. Experience different cultures by teaching abroad
  5. Part-time and full-time positions are available

A TEFL course is a great way to explore a new culture and experience a change in lifestyle. It provides an exciting teaching career with plenty of job opportunities online and abroad.

What To Look For in a TEFL Course

When I first started searching for a TEFL provider, there were four main factors that I considered: accreditation, price, curriculum, and customer service.

And while some schools could offer the best combination of the three, others weren’t able to excel in any one of these areas.

TEFL Employers are looking for a motivated, dedicated, enthusiastic individual to take on a teaching position. They expect teachers to have a minimum 120-hour TEFL certificate and preferably some prior experience. This is why choosing a TEFL course with classroom experience is a good option.

Who Can Take a TEFL Course?

To take a TEFL course, you will not need any formal qualifications; however, they are preferred.

A TEFL certificate is certainly an advantage to search for when looking for employment.

However, it’s also important to know your own skills and experience as this can be helpful to talk about in the interview. For example, maybe you were a former coach, worked with children, or had customer service roles in the past.

You don’t need to have English as your native language to take this course. Many different countries accept non-native English speakers, such as China, India, Cambodia, Mexico, Romania, and Argentina.

The beauty of TEFL is that you don’t need a second language to teach English. All you need is English!

MyTEFL Teaching Practicum Review

The teaching practicum is an optional part of the course, which gives the real-life experience of teaching English to others.

It involves around four hours of additional teaching observation and practices with feedback from MyTEFL tutors.

This is followed by a further thirty-two hours of teaching practice to ESL students over an eight-week period.

MyTEFL Internships

MyTEFL provides internships if you wish to gain certification while working on one of their programs in a foreign country.

The internships are between 1-7 months and usually have a salary guarantee. This provides hands-on training to new teachers with full board accommodation so the teachers can get stuck in without difficulties.

Internships can provide a sense of security to inexperienced travelers, but it is usually better to obtain your TEFL certificate first and make your own job arrangements, as internships can be more expensive.

Many TEFL jobs already include accommodation, insurance, holidays and other perks.
